If you are a music lover and planning to travel the country to check out the cities that embody all things music the best, you are certainly in for a treat. Or maybe you are taking these travels to decide which music-infused city you want to make your permanent residence.
Either way, there are several that stand out as musical and that really exude a culture of music that residents love and are drawn to. If this sounds like the dream to you, these are the cities you should check out that are considered America’s best cities for music lovers:
New Orleans, Louisiana
If you have jazz on the mind, you have got to visit New Orleans or even make the move there after your music tour of the U.S. New Orleans is the birthplace of jazz, and jazz spread from New Orleans throughout the country and inspired the creation of several other genres of music.
Music is absolutely embedded in the culture of New Orleans, and you can’t turn around in the city without hearing some jazz or seeing a live music venue or a musician in the street. Every spring, you can also check out the Jazz and Heritage Festival, and be sure not to leave without checking out the music scene on Bourbon Street.
Memphis, Tennessee
Heading north just a little, be sure to stop in the music hotspot that is Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis is known as the “Home of the Blues and Birthplace of Rock and Roll.” If you are looking more for blues or rock than jazz, Memohic would be a great city for you.
Music is also a part of daily life in Memphis, as well as its history, just like New Orleans. Simply check out some of the biggest attractions in the Memphis area to see the impact of music on the city: Graceland (Elvis’ former home), the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, Sun Studio, and one of Memphis’ many juke joints.
Be sure to also stop on Beale Street for some of the best live music venues in the city. You might find that you love the live music so much, you are looking for Memphis houses for sale as close to the action as you can get.
Seattle, Washington
Next, take a giant leap across the country to the Pacific Northwest to check out Seattle’s music scene. Like New Orleans and Memphis, Seattle also has a strong musical history, but this city’s historical ties to music may be more recent. Musically, Seattle may be most known for the 90s grunge trend, but Seattle was also the home of Jimi Hendrix.
More current bands and artists to come out of Seattle include Death Cab for Cutie, The Shins, and Macklemore. Head to Capitol Hill or Belltown today for some amazing live music at bars and clubs, or be sure to head to Seattle in September for the Bumbershoot Festival.
Whether you like blues, jazz, rock, or something different, there is a musical city for you. Be sure to put New Orleans, Memphis, and Seattle at the top of your list!
